In her teaching, Bronwen draws on various styles of Hatha Yoga, predominantly using a flowing Vinyasa-style approach, where postures are held for various lengths of time and sequenced together into a flowing dynamic form. The focus of the sequences is on harmonising rhythm, alignment and breath, with appropriate use of bandha. This helps to heat and detoxify the body; strengthen, stretch and tone the muscles; open the joints; free the spine; release tension on all levels, and calm and focus the mind in preparation for relaxation and/or meditation.
There are classes available to suit all body types, all ages (12 upwards) and all levels of fitness and flexibility, from beginners, to those who have previous experience. Students are assured of personal attention, as the classes are small, with a relaxed, friendly, accepting atmosphere.

Full and new moons: It is traditional not to do Hatha Yoga exercises at the full and new moons. When a class falls on one of these days, Bronwen teaches a less active practice with deep long-held stretches, and/or Yoga Nidra.
Yoga Nidra is a powerful practice in which one learns to consciously relax, releasing physical, emotional and mental tension. The practice is especially useful for self-healing, for increasing one's creativity and for making positive changes to one's nature and in one's life.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga: This is a classical style of Hatha yoga that is renowned for its dynamic, flowing yoga-asana sequences. Asanas are performed in a specific sequence, with each asana unfolding into the next in a continuous cycle. Asanas are linked by vinyasa (synchronised movement breathing system), and involve the application of bandhas (locks in order to contain or direct energy), drishtis (gaze / focus points) and the calming ujjayi breath.
The purpose of vinyasa is for internal cleansing. The combination of breathing and movement creates heat, which aids in purifying first the body, and in later stages the nervous system and mind. Ultimately, this enables the light of our own inner Selves to be revealed.
With persevering practice, Ashtanga Yoga creates a healthy, strong and supple body, and a calm, focussed mind.
Bronwen teaches a 3-hour Ashtanga class one Sunday a month. See the Events page for details.

Be Free!

"Most of us come to our yoga mats seeking freedom. We want to be free from injury, free from suffering, free from attachments, and even free from the constraints of our own minds. On the yogic path, the ultimate freedom is known as kaivalya. It's another way of saying spiritual independence—or realizing that all you were searching for was inside of you all along."
